Tanzania’s Northern circuit is renowned for offering the finest wildlife viewing holidays in Africa. There are several accommodation options in and outside the parks, campsites, special camps, tented camps and safari lodges.
The Serengeti
The oldest and most popular park farmed for its high density of large mammals and annual migration where millions of wildebeests, zebras and Thomson gazelles make the seasonal journey to fresh pastures in the North then South after the biannual rains. It is a special gift to witness the largest mass movement of land mammmals on the planet. Even after migration the park offers arguably the most scintillating game viewing experience in Africa.
Ngorongoro.
The breathtaking natural wonder and world class attraction often called Africa’s Eden. It is the largest unflooded and unbroken volcanic caldera. It is a multiple land use area with wildlife coexisting with semi nomadic Maasai parstoralists practicing traditional livestock grazing. The crater is home of large animals mostly angulates along side the highest density of mammalian predators in Africa.
Tarangire
The Tarangire river crossing through the park is the only source of water for wild animals. It is the reason for the migration of thousands of animals to the Tarangire National Park from nearby Manyara National Park.
It is famous for its huge number of elephants, baobab trees and tree climbing lions and leopards and is a permanent home of other mammals including buffalos, zebra, wildebeest, waterbuck, giraffe, olive baboons and more. The landscape and vegetation is incredibly diverse with a mix that is not found anywhere else in the Northern safari circuit. The hilly landscape is dotted with vast numbers of Baobab trees, termite mounds, dense bush, and high grasses.
Lake Manyara National Park.
This beautiful small park stretching 50km along the base of 600m high Rift valley escapement, Lake Manyara National Park’s game viewing circuit offers a virtual microcosm of the safari experience. This park is known for the flamingos that inhabit the lake as well as 400 species of birds that inhabit the park. Leopards, lions, cheetahs, elephants, blue monkeys, dik-dik, gazelle, hippo, giraffe, impala, and more also call the park home and many can be seen throughout the year. There is a hippo pond at one end of the park where visitors can get out of their cars and observe from a safe distance. The leopards and lions are both known to lounge in the trees while not hunting for prey.
